How much time does it take? On average around an hour each day - some challengers fix a regular time each day, others catch up when they can. It's all online, and it's designed to fit around running a business.
How do I win?
If you want to be in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid publishing deal, you must submit your completed proposal by midnight UK time on the Monday following the end of the Challenge. I'm looking for a strong commercial concept, well presented, and an author who's credible and committed.
What if I want to self-publish - why do I need a proposal? You don't need a proposal to self-publish, but going through the rigorous process of clarifying and presenting your book concept in this challenge will help you enormously as you write and promote your book.
What do you mean by 'business book'? For the purposes of this challenge, a 'business book' is a book that you write as a tool to build your business. It can be on any topic - the Practical Inspiration Publishing list includes outdoor instructors, yoga teachers and parenting experts, as well as more traditional business-y roles such as HR experts, marketeers, consultants and coaches. What they all have in common is that they're experts in their field, and the book is designed to build their profile and their business.
Is this challenge suitable for other kinds of books?
No: other genres such as fiction, cookery, humour or children's books have different submission routes - and they're outside my expertise! If you're writing other forms of non-fiction you'll find this challenge useful, but it's specifically tailored for business and self-development books.
